Adam Carolla, last and most notably relevant for his hijinks on Comedy Central’s ‘The Man Show,’ has taken the harrowing burden upon himself to declare women unfunny. Ladies, rejoice: You can all give up and go back to your kitchens now.

The AV Club reports that Carolla, while talking to the New York Post to promote his new book (so hilariously titled ‘Not Taco Bell Material’ — whatever that means), said “dudes are funnier than chicks.” So eloquent.

He went on to describe working with women in television:

They make you hire a certain number of chicks, and they’re always the least funny on the writing staff. If my daughter has a mediocre sense of humor, I’m just gonna tell her, ‘Be a staff writer for a sitcom. Because they’ll have to hire you, they can’t really fire you, and you don’t have to produce that much. It’ll be awesome.’

So there it is. Men are forced to work with women in writers’ rooms against their will. Carolla basically says that the only reason women are getting hired is that networks have a quota to meet, so it doesn’t matter if a woman is talented or funny or has searing insights — she’ll get hired because of her reproductive system. Oh, and they don’t have to work as hard as men, either, because everyone knows they’re just around to prevent a lawsuit.

Carolla made a name for himself co-hosting the long-running ‘Love Line’ call-in radio series with Dr. Drew, which also ran in a live show format on MTV, in which he deemed himself knowledgeable enough to give viewers and listeners advice on such delicate matters as STDs, infidelity, and various sexual activities. He also appeared alongside Jimmy Kimmel on ‘The Man Show,’ a show in which women (affectionately labeled “Juggies”) were only afforded one of two scantily-clad positions: beer wench or trampoline-jumper.

Clearly, career misogynist Adam Carolla is wrong. Women are becoming a bigger part of television and movies these days, and though we still make up for far less of the talent pool behind the scenes than our male counterparts, there is progress being made.

Take Lena Dunham, for instance, whose show ‘Girls‘ was a breakout hit on HBO this spring and just ended its first season this week. Dunham is hilarious, intelligent, and an incredibly talented writer with a strong, daring voice. And, as statistics recently taught us, more men than women were tuning in to ‘Girls’ every week. What does that say?

Dunham is joined by several other female showrunners, like Liz Meriwether (‘New Girl‘), Emily Spivey (‘Up All Night’), Nahnatchka Khan (‘Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23′), and yes, even Whitney Cummings, who ran both ‘Whitney’ and ’2 Broke Girls,’ the latter of which boasts the hilarious Molly McAleer as one of its staff writers.

If women aren’t funny and only hired to meet some nefarious, ass-covering quota, then why are so many of them running their own shows? Maybe they didn’t teach Carolla how to cover his own ass, though he does make an attempt in the interview by saying that Tina Fey, Sarah Silverman, and Kathy Griffin are all “super funny chicks.”

We’re sure they’re thrilled to have the approval of a guy who used to make women jump up and down on trampolines in slow-mo so we could all look up their skirts — because nothing screams “hilarious” quite like lechery. Hey, Adam? Do let us know how that new book works out for you, buddy.
