Around 2:20 p.m. the Amarillo Police Department responded to a call on the NE block of 10th St. of a man who was threatening to hurt himself and others around him.

When police arrived to the scene the man then threatened officers and his relatives. This prompted the APD to call in the help of the SWAT team and the bomb squad after officials found out he could have access to a rifle.

According to Amarillo.com "About 5:35 p.m., police fired multiple tear gas canisters into a home at 3616 N.E. 10th Ave. in an attempt to persuade a barricaded man into leaving the home, Amarillo Police Cpl. Jerry Neufeld said."

The 41 year-old man stepped out of his house around 6:05 p.m. and was taken to a hospital for a medical evaluation. No one was injured during the ordeal.
