Amarillo Veteran Robbed At Gun Point On His First Day Delivering Pizzas

A veteran who served three tours of duty in Afghanistan was robbed on his first day on the job delivering pizzas in north Amarillo Tuesday, police said.  According to the Amarillo Globe News, the man was delivering pizzas to  an address in the 1300 block of Northwest 14th Avenue about 8:55 p.m., he told police. When the driver arrived at the delivery address and exited his car, two black juveniles were standing outside the house.

The juveniles told the victim they were waiting for the pizzas, then one pulled a handgun and held it to the victim’s belly, police said. The suspects fled westbound on foot on Northwest 14th Avenue with two pizzas and an undisclosed amount of cash, police said.

This story makes me sick to my stomach. This man, who served his country was actually safer in a war zone than our small town of Amarillo. It also makes me sick that the only jobs our veterans are able to find are low level and apparently dangerous to boot. I would think that serving 3 tours in Afghanistan would qualify him for more than slinging pizzas. I hope this story will be an eye opener, and bring back the respect for the men and women who defend us every day from losers like these two pathetic people.
