American Idol Finalist Danny Gokey Engaged

I'm sure most people are familiar with Danny Gokey. A third place finisher on American Idol and a man with a story that broke the hearts of many who watch the show.

About a month before he auditioned for American Idol, his wife and high school sweetheart underwent surgery for a congenital heart disease. It was her third surgery for the heart issues. She died on the table from complications. Danny accredits his success to his late wife and her influence.

Danny has now announced his engagement to Leyicet Peralta, on the website Sophia's Heart, a foundation website set up in honor of his late wife.

It is planned that he will wed his new wife Leyicet in late January 2012. He has asked that instead of sending or giving gifts, that people make a donation to his late wife's foundation, Sophia's Heart.

"We are thankful for so many of the blessings God has given us. It is our desire to see homeless children and families be kept together and lifted back on their feet through the help of Sophia's Heart," the couple says in a statement. "We love and appreciate you all."
