All of the trailers for 'Godzilla' have put emphasis on tone, showcasing the aftermath of epic monster rampages and giving us tons of close-ups of people whose days have been pretty much ruined. But this new TV spot does something a little different, selling the human story behind all of the chaos and destruction. Oh, and it does so while offering our best look yet at Godzilla himself.
There's no way the set of 'The Expendables 3' wasn't a fascinating place to be. After all, you don't put personalities as varied and eclectic as Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Harrison Ford in one place without generating at least a few stories worth sharing. A new batch of images from the set of the upcoming action film makes us wish we could have been a fly on the wall for a few days. What exactly would Antonio Banderas and Wesley Snipes say to each other?
When Paul Walker tragically died last November, the world mourned an actor who was not only a welcome screen presence, but a genuinely well-liked and respected guy. It was especially hard to hear the reactions of his 'Fast and Furious' franchise co-stars. This is a series all about friendship and family, so the loss of a key member of that crew hits hard. 'Fast and Furious 7' recently resumed shooting after an extended hiatus to rework the film and fans have been wondering how the production will work around the loss of a major character. Now, Universal hinted at a strange but touching solution.
What begins as a fairly typical 'SNL' sketch soon transforms into one of darker sketches the show has put on in recent memory, exploring the dissolution of a marriage thanks to dog food choices. Guest host Seth Rogen and regular cast member Cecily Strong bring their finest comedic chops to the scene, wringing every possible ounce of discomfort out of every moment.
This weekend saw a neck-and-neck race for the first spot at the box office, with the animated 'Rio 2' offering strong competition for last week's champion, 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier.' When the dust, debris and feathers settled, the one starring the superhero took the first slot, but there is no shame in a second place that strong.
It really doesn't feel like 'SNL' unless there's a commercial parody video, which have been the show's bread and butter for decades. Last night's episode had the first memorable fake ad in awhile, offering a look at the thankfully fictional CNN pregnancy test.
The idea of a movie about an evil mirror tormenting and killing people over the years may seem a little silly, but 'Oculus' makes it work. Set in two time frames, it tells the story of how the "Lasser Glass" destroyed one family and how the survivors reunite years later to exact their revenge. We have an exclusive look at the history of this (thankfully fictional) object, narrated by star Karen Gillan who rips off a monologue on all the mirror's devilish deeds.
Like 'Iron Man 3' and 'Thor: The Dark World,' the question was never whether or not 'Captain America: The Winter Soldier' would take the number one spot at the box office, but rather how much it would earn while sitting pretty at the top of the list. Also, like its "Phase 2" predecessors, the second Steve Rogers adventure proved that people are still punch-drunk in love with the Avengers characters.
Call us suckers, but going by the new trailer for 'The Expendables 3,' we think this may be the one that finally gets it right. Both 'The Expendables' and 'The Expendables 2' were well-meaning but sloppy nostalgia exercises, but we're hoping that the third time is the charm and that this one will be a well-meaning and actually entertaining nostalgia exercise.
When 'SNL' targets television shows, their targets tend to be modern (or at least based on some iconic celebrity). So it was a pleasant and weird surprise when the show went completely retro with a fake commercial for an old show called "Dyke and Fats," a buddy cop series starring two female police officers with very unfortunate nicknames.
Insert your own "when it rains, it pours" joke right here. Darren Aronofsky's instantly controversial biblical epic 'Noah' overcame mixed buzz to win the box office this weekend, catering to both religious audiences and film buffs who like weird movies from unique, picky directors. But all was not well for everyone -- the latest film from a certain Hollywood action legend got washed away in 'Noah''s success.
If you put a professional stand-up comic on a stage, he's going to want to perform. Did anyone actually expect 'SNL' guest host Louis C.K. to play along with any opening monologue idea that wasn't just eight minutes of hilarious comedy carefully culled from whatever he's working on at the moment? After all, C.K. is funny and he knows a good self-promotion opportunity when he sees it.
