Blake Shelton's never been known for his restraint when it comes to social media posts, but he let loose in a more serious vein than usual with a series of tweets on Monday (May 11).

The country star and coach on NBC's The Voice started off by encouraging young people to form their own opinions about America and other countries carefully, then followed with a series of tweets about the misguided power of celebrities to influence public opinion, how the various media outlets slant the news to garner ratings and more.

The singer didn't clarify what prompted him to vent about such unusually weighty topics, but his fans certainly responded. Somewhat ironically, given the topics of his posts, Shelton's tweets have been shared more than 15,000 times since Monday — which almost certainly would not have happened if not for his own celebrity status.

The "Sangria" singer is currently coaching former Steel Magnolia singer Meghan Linsey on the current season of The Voice, where she has made it to the finals. The finalists will perform with their coaches on Monday night (May 18), with the winner crowned on Tuesday (May 19).
