The production will be put on by Texas Tech University's Opera Theatre in collaboration with Moonlight Broadway Productions.

Marissa Hernandez, who graduated from Canyon High School in 2013, will be taking the stage in Lubbock as Christine in Andrew Lloyd Webber's classic opera. She'll be performing alongside David Gaschen, a Broadway actor who has played the role of the Phantom more than 1,000 times. Gaschen is originally from Lubbock and graduated from Texas Tech in 1993.

Hernandez was in the Texas All-State Choir during her time at Canyon and is continuing her singing career in college. She is studying music at Texas Tech University. And music seems to run in the family - both of her parents and her siblings have performed in TEXAS numerous times.

If you've never seen 'Phantom' on the big screen or on stage, here's a brief synopsis: a man, known as the Phantom, lives in the theater and falls in love with an opera singer named Christine. He kidnaps her and wreaks havoc on the people of the theater. (I won't give away the ending)

If you'd like to see a performance, there will be shows at  7:30 p.m. from November 18th through the 22nd and November 25th and 26th, and 2 p.m. November 20th, 26th, and 27th in the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center Theatre.Tickets are $43-$100, depending on seating sections.
