A deadly virus is spreading to animals across the Panhandle.  Veterinarians are warning pet owners to be cautious.

Pet owners know that our furry friends are more than just pets, they are family.  We do everything we can to make sure they are healthy and happy.  When a deadly virus is spreading, we need to know.

Amarillo Vets are currently treating a lot of cases of the parvovirus.  Parvo is a disease that attacks the animal's body cells, usually in the stomach area.  Not only is it very contagious, but it is very expensive to treat and most animals don't make it anyway.

This is a disease that kind of sneaks up on you.  Your dog will act normal and then all of sudden they don't want to eat. Then they start vomiting and they end up with the bloody diarrhea.  It is just terrible!

Most dogs who contract this disease are dogs that have not been vaccinated.  This disease is easily preventable if you just take the right precautions as a dog owner.

Now, if you have an animal that gets parvo, it is very important to disinfect the area thoroughly and it is recommended not to have another animal in the home for at least a year.
