A Total of 11 Earthquakes Hit Dallas Area in 24 Hours [UPDATED]

WFAA-TV

After an initial 3.5-magnitude earthquake hit near Irving on Tuesday, an additional 10 tremors have been felt in the area in less than 24 hours.

Less than four hours after the 3.5 quake, the largest — this one 3.6 — happened at 6:52 p.m.

Other quakes consisting of magnitudes of 2.7, 3.1, 2.3, 2.4, 1.7, 1.6 also have occurred. The most recent was the 2.7 quake at 9:57 a.m. Wednesday morning, according to WFAA-TV in Dallas.

All of the earthquakes are originating near the old Texas Stadium site in Irving.

No injuries or serious damage has been reported.

WFAA reported a “double event” of quakes happened shortly after 8 p.m. Tuesday with magnitudes of 2.9 and 2.7, respectively.

While the larger quakes originated in Irving near the intersections of 114 and 183, TV stations in the Metroplex heard from viewers as far away as Euless and Wylie who said they could feel the quakes.

The area has now received 25 earthquakes since Nov. 1, 2014 — just over two months. The 3.6-magnitude earthquake was the largest of the group.

As far as a cause of the earthquakes, that remains to be told. What do you think it is?
