Favorite Tourist Attractions In Amarillo

Sitting in the center of the country, and having one of the largest highways running right through the center of the city, really opens Amarillo up for tourists year around. And, believe it or not, we have quite a few places here that grab people's attention.

Historic Route 66 is a great little treasure here in Amarillo. It is crowded with unique shops and one of a kind vendors. It normally has crowds walking the street year around, but if you head down 66 in the summer time, you'll find it packed with people. During the day you can find people hitting all the shops and chatting up all the people, and at night the clubs are filled with people due to the live music scene. A great place to bring visitors or just come hang out if your new to Amarillo.

This museum might be one of the most interesting and overlooked places in Amarillo. It has been here for many decades and has a big impact on the area and western life. If you have any equestrian interest you will definitely enjoy the AQHA Museum. There's not much more that truly shouts Amarillo than this.

This is an absolute must visit if you are new to Amarillo, or just looking for something fun to do. There is a little something for every one. Beautiful land and wildlife along with the river and camp areas make this a place that the family can really enjoy together. There are also great places for hiking and an extensive network of mountain bike trails. Make sure you fill your cooler with cold drink, during the summer months it hits triple digits on the floor of the canyon.

Cadillac Ranch is definitely one of the most 'different' attractions in Amarillo. It was started by a local 'eccentric' man named Stanley Marsh. He buried Cadillacs out in a field off of I-40. Over time he buried quite a few. Now, it is a national attraction. Bands, presidents, and other celebrities have visited and had photos taken and this odd attraction. Whether you are visiting, moving here, or just passing through; you have to take a little time and get a snap shot of you with these old caddy's.

The Big Texan is a national icon for one simple reason. The “FREE” 72 oz. steak. That's right. A 72oz steak meal and it's free if it is eaten in 1 hour. Now, it may sound fairly easy, but there is quite a bit that goes along with it. But, if you can do it, you will have your named etched on a little piece of history. And, if you can't, hey you gave it a shot. If you're driving through Amarillo on I-40, you can't miss it.
