The preseason has officially started and professional quarterbacks are stretching their arms.

Among those, Dustin Vaughan came out for the Pittsburgh Steelers' first preseason game against the Detroit Lions.

Dustin Vaughan was the quarterback for WTAMU during his college career. He was a three-year starter and led the team to a Lone Star Conference championship in 2012. He also won the Offensive Player of the Year.

Vaughan was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2014, but was taken off the roster after one season. In 2015, the Buffalo Bills added him to their practice squad. However, he was released less than a month later.

Luckily, the Pittsburgh Steelers picked him up in January 2016.

Vaughan went into the game against the Lions in the third quarter and completed 6 of 11 passes. He replaced the 3rd-string quarterback, Bruce Gradkowski, who suffered a hamstring injury. Gradkowski's injury could keep him from playing in next week's game, so Vaughan could see more playing time.

Landry Jones is the Steelers' 2nd-string quarterback under NFL starter Ben Roethlisberger.

Vaughan is one of nine former Buffs in the NFL. Torrence Allen is a wide receiver for the San Diego Chargers, Bryan Braman is a defensive end for the Philadelphia Eagles, Brittan Golden is a wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals, Khiry Robinson is a running back for the New York Jets, Eugene Sims is a defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams, Craig Watts is a guard for the New York Jets, J'Marcus Webb is an offensive tackle for the Seattle Seahawks, and Ethan Westbrooks is a defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Rams.
