Legendary country singer George Jones has been admitted to the hospital. He is suffering from an upper respiratory infection.

According to the AP, the singer’s publicist confirmed that Jones, 80, was admitted to a hospital in the Nashville area today (March 29) and that he will remain under a doctor’s care overnight. Jones, perhaps best known for his hit song ‘He Stopped Loving Her Today,’ will stay in the hospital for observation purposes, so it’s likely a precautionary measure. Thankfully, the prognosis must be somewhat good — he is slated to be released from the hospital tomorrow (March 30.) Jones faced a similar fate last January when he was also kept under close watch after a routine checkup turned up questionable results.

Jones has a spate of tour dates that’ll have him on the road and touring again in April and through much of 2012. Nothing — not even a respiratory infection — can keep him down! He’s an active octogenarian.

Taste of Country sends our best out to Jones while he recovers.
