With so many different holidays, it is hard to remember each and every one.  Today is Administrative Professionals Day, formerly known as Secretary's day.  But why the name change?

Secretary's day was created back in 1952 to honor the hard work they do and to encourage more women to become secretaries.  Oh how the times are changing.  There are no longer 'women' or 'men' jobs.  In today's society there are male nurses and women construction workers.

There are no gender limitations when it comes to the professional world.  That means men and women alike can be a secretary.  So, therefore, we still celebrate secretary's day.  The name, however, not so much.

With the change in society, the holiday people decided it was time to change the name to Administrative Professionals Day.  It is a non-gender biased term and includes more than just secretaries.

In my opinion, it doesn't matter what the position is called or who holds that position.  If you have a wonderful co-worker that you appreciate and holds this position, take some time out of your day and tell them you appreciate them.  If you'd like to treat them to a little something, common gifts include: Flowers, Cards, often with shopping gift certificates, Take them to lunch, Candies, Assorted Gift Baskets.
