The worst thing in the world, is to be hungry.  More people than you think actually are.  You can help feed those in your community with the 'Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.'

The wonderful US Postal Carriers will be helping out the High Plains Food Bank this Saturday, May 12th.  Eight cities in the TX panhandle, including Amarillo, Canyon, Dumas, Hereford, and others, should be receiving a brown bag in their mail boxes.

Residents wanting to help the hungry need to fill up the bag with non perishable items and leave it next to their mail boxes before 9 a.m. on Saturday.

The letter carriers will stop by and collect all the food items and deliver them to the High Plains Food Bank.

It is especially important to help the HPFB during the summer months because school will be out.  A lot of families depend on school in order for their kids to eat.  The food bank faces shortages during summer months every year.

Food items that will be appropriate are macaroni and cheese or cereal, rice, pinto beans, any canned foods, paper goods and personal hygiene items.  They are asking that you do not donate items in glass jars or breakable containers.

This is the 17th year that the US Postal Service has teamed up to help 'Stamp Out Hunger.'

The High Plains Food Bank serves more an area of more than 30,000 square miles and distributes an average of 650,000 pounds of food each month.

This year the goal is for the US Postal Service to collect 30,000 pounds of food and you can help them reach that goal.
