Have you ever watched a western movie and seen all the bandits boarding the steam powered train? Have you ever thought about seeing one those trains in person?  Believe it or not, people back in the day used to travel like that before cars and modern locomotives were invented.

Well, the Texas Panhandle residents can see one of Union Pacific’s last steam engine trains. Number 844 will roll through Amarillo this weekend at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday at 83 S. Pierce St. during its 150th birthday celebration tour. The rolling 454-ton train left Houston on Oct. 27 and is scheduled to arrive back to its home in Cheyenne, Wyoming on Nov. 8.

Now, the Union Pacific connects 23 states, mainly in the western part of the country. It's up to the people to preserve as much history as possible. Here is your chance to see a live action steam powered train.

The Railroad Artifact Preservation Society will hold tours of the Amarillo engine Santa Fe No. 5000 at Southeast Second Avenue and Lincoln Street from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. As the R.A.P.S. help celebrate Union Pacific’s birthday, it also hopes to draw attention to its project restoring the live steam engine Madame Queen for the city. If you want be part of some history, not only is the train rolling though the city, it also has a few more stops throughout the Texas Panhandle on its way home.
