This would have been his second trip to the trials.

Michael Stigler wasn't just a big fish in a small pond when he ran track at Canyon High School. His incredible athleticism took him to a much bigger pond, but he continued to stand out.

Stigler graduated from Canyon in 2011. He went to the University of Kansas, where he broke school records, won four Big 12 championships, and even won the NCAA national title for the 400-meter hurdles in 2015.

He was also a finalist in the Olympic Trials in 2012.

Stigler announced that he would not be participating in the 2016 Olympic Trials on June 28th, just one week before they were set to take place in Eugene, Oregon.

His qualifying time was the fourth-fastest among all American Olympic hurdlers.

Stigler has been a professional runner for Adidas since June 2015.

Norman Grimes, Canyon High School class of 2016, also qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 400-meter hurdles. However, Grimes suffered a hamstring injury earlier this year, so he will not be participating either.

We hope to see these incredible athletes back in the running (haha get it?) in 2020 and wish them good health and healing!
