‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ Can Now Be Seen Three Weeks Earlier

Warner Bros.

There’s so much date-changing around here that it’s almost hard to keep up! So let’s add another movie to the pile: ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ (which just got it’s name changed from ‘Jack the Giant Killer’) has now been moved from its March 22 slot back a few weeks to March 1.

THR is reporting that New Line and Warner Bros. have moved up the release of ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ to the spot previously held by Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Elysium,’ his highly-anticipated follow-up to ‘District 9.’ ‘Elysium’ was moved to the August 9 spot, previously occupied by the upcoming ‘RoboCop‘ remake, which is now getting a spring 2014 release. Still with us? Good!

‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ isn’t making a huge leap this time, but it was originally scheduled for 2012′s summer until it got delayed into March, so a three week shuffle is small potatoes in comparison. The film is directed by Bryan Singer (‘Superman Returns’) and is a punched-up retelling of the classic fairytale about a boy, a huge beanstalk, and an even bigger giant. This time around, the story focuses on a valiant boy (Nicholas Hoult), who breaches the kingdom of the giants to save a princess, thus negating a longstanding peace treaty between humans and giants. The film also stars Stanley Tucci, Ewan McGregor, Ian McShane, and Bill Nighy.
