It seems odd to think about farm animals inside city limits, but some residents want just that.  The city of Amarillo has decided to keep the current chicken regulation as is.

On Tuesday the public debate about chickens in Amarillo continued.  The Amarillo Animal Control Board heard a presentation asking for the current chicken regulations to be amended.

Some of the cities residents would like for the city to allow egg laying hens.  They feel like it would allow some residents to enjoy "lower living expenses and contribute to their community’s overall food sustainability and security."

The board disagreed, saying that the current rules seem stable enough.  The current regulations allow up to four fowl per quarter-acre of land in residential areas, with no fowl allowed on lots smaller than a quarter-acre.

So if you were planning to start an egg business, you can't do it in city limits.  Maybe the rules will change but for now this is how they will stand.
