More than a decade after their first appearance, southern rock legends Lynyrd Skynyrd are returning to CMT Crossroads, this time pairing up with country rebel Brantley Gilbert.

The iconic rock group originally teamed with Montgomery Gentry for a Crossroads episode in 2004, during the show's fourth season. They recently taped a spot with Gilbert in Franklin, Tenn., a suburb of Nashville.

Skynyrd's legacy spans rock and country and includes such classics as "Gimme Three Steps," "Sweet Home Alabama" and of course, "Free Bird," one of the most instantly recognizable songs in 20th century popular music. The group have risen above extraordinary tragedy to sell more than 30 million albums worldwide, have been named one of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time by both Rolling Stone and VH1, and are members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

They are set to release a CD/DVD set titled Lynyrd Skynyrd: One More for the Fans this summer, featuring an array of special guests performing Skynyrd's greatest hits with the current lineup, which includes guitarist Gary Rossington, lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant and guitarist Rickey Medlocke along with longtime drummer Michael Cartellone, guitarist Mark "Sparky" Matejka, bassist Johnny Colt, keyboardist Peter Keys and the Honkettes — Dale Krantz Rossington and Carol Chase — on background vocals.

Gilbert is one of the hottest young stars in country music today, whose most recent album, Just As I Am, was one of the top five country albums of 2014, reaching gold status. Since his 2009 debut album, Modern Day Prodigal Son, he has been ahead of the curve in contemporary country — one of the songs from that album, "My Kinda Party," helped revolutionize modern country radio when Jason Aldean cut it a few years later. Gilbert is known for other rowdy party anthems like "Kick It in the Sticks," but he's also got a more sensitive side, too, as evidenced by songs like "More Than Miles" and "You Don't Know Her Like I Do."

See what happens when one of rock's most legendary bands shares the stage with one of country's most cutting-edge performers when the Skynyrd/Gilbert episode of CMT Crossroads premieres on June 27 at 10PM ET.
