Justice is growing closer for the Cash family, who have been grieving the death 23-year-old Courtney Cash since her fatal stabbing in 2014.

According to the Tennessean, the man accused of killing the great niece of Johnny Cash has plead guilty to a murder charge. New Jersey native Wayne Masciarella has been charged with first-degree murder in the 2014 death of Courtney Cash. He was also accused of stabbing her boyfriend, William Austin Johnson.

Masciarella had reportedly gotten into a dispute with Johnson and Cash at their home before he allegedly stabbed them both and then fled the scene. Johnson called for emergency services before heading to the hospital with the couple's 2-year-old daughter.

Eddie Farris, Putnam County's sheriff, says that he is satisfied with the way the case has progressed.

"The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office has received undue criticism about this investigation," he writes in the statement. "I’m sure some things could have been done differently but at the end of the day, we would still be where we are now. Wayne Masciarella said from the very beginning of this investigation that he stabbed Courtney Cash. Wayne Masciarella is again taking responsibility for the death of Courtney Cash by entering this plea of guilt. I am glad that we can put this behind us and move forward without delaying justice any further.”

Courtney Cash was the granddaughter of Tommy Cash, the brother of country legend Johnny Cash. The Tennessean reports that Tommy Cash has requested both prayers and privacy for his family.
