It seems that as technology advances, scams become more frequent.  Don't let yourself fall prey to the newest scam to hit our area.

I really don't understand why people feel it is ok to take advantage of hard working people, but they do.  More and more people are coming up with ideas to steal or 'scam' their way into your wallets.

Xcel Energy has reported receiving several calls about a possible scam in the Amarillo area.  The scammer will call you at a busy time of the day and act as if they are an Xcel Energy representative.  They will then tell you that the power is going to be disconnected unless you pay over the phone right now.

Just remember, if your services are going to be disconnected, you will get a written notice in the mail.  They will never disconnect without a written notice.  If you receive a call and it sounds suspicious, just hang up and call Xcel Energy at 1-800-895-4999.  They will be able to tell you the status of your account.

With so many scams popping up all the time, it is better to be safe than scammed!  If it sounds fishy, check it out.
