Ray Price Memorial Booked, Wife Janie Shares Emotional Message
Friends and fans of country singer Ray Price are invited to a memorial to honor the legend this weekend.
The singer’s wife, Janie, announced the hometown celebration of Ray’s life and legacy. “If you are able to come, I will be there to thank you,” she says.
The memorial will be held at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, Texas at 1PM on Dec. 21. The church’s pastor stresses that it’s not a funeral, rather a chance for those who were moved by Price’s music or his spirit to honor the 87-year-old.
Price died on Monday (Dec. 16) after four days in home hospice care. He’d been battling pancreatic cancer for over two years.
During a letter shared by a friend on her Facebook page, Janie writes about her husband’s final moments. “He passed away so gently, so sweetly, so effortlessly,” she says. “He just went to sleep. Absolutely no pain of any kind.”
“Ray was my entire life,” she continues. “Today I am alone and have never known such loneliness. I have lost my Soul Mate of 45 years.”
Ray Price’s hometown will be the first to celebrate his life. Three eulogists are scheduled to speak about the ‘Crazy Arms’ singer. There will also be instrumental music and a few songs played to honor him. Funeral arrangements are still pending.
