Reba McEntire’s ‘Fancy’ Mashed With Iggy Azalea Actually Works [Listen - NSFW]

Sometimes, mash-ups go horribly wrong, and sometimes, they go wonderfully right. This blend of Reba McEntire‘s ‘Fancy’ and Izzy Azalea‘s ‘Fancy’ is one of those that just somehow just works.

The mash-up begins primarily with Azalea’s No. 1 hit with just subtle country undertones. Without the twang of the guitar, you may not initially know McEntire’s 1991 hit was in there at all. (Warning: Azalea’s song contains explicit content from the get go.)

After about 40 seconds, McEntire’s well-known lyrics begin: “Here’s your one chance Fancy, don’t let me down,” she sings, before Azalea’s rap tunes kick right back up. The mix of country tunes and fast-paced raps combine perfectly in this 3:31 mash-up that’s been circulating.

It takes nearly two minutes for Azalea’s lyrics and McEntire’s voice to overlap, but when they do, it’s a match made in heaven — albeit, an unexpected heaven. The Australian artist’s sound slows just in time for McEntire’s to pick the mash-up that Don Chamberlain (Chambaland Mashups) created back up.

McEntire’s version of ‘Fancy’ was originally performed by Bobbie Gentry in 1969 before McEntire made it her own. Gentry used it as a crossover pop/country hit in the early ’70s. The emotional song then became a big hit for McEntire in 1991, hitting the Top 10.

Azalea’s ‘Fancy,’ on the other hand, was released in early 2014. It’s a song where she celebrates being “the realest” and able to ignore “haters.” Check out the ‘Fancy’ mash-up below.
