The cold has hit us like a ton of bricks.  Monday we were in the 70's and today we are in the teens.  That means that a lot of the homeless are looking for a warm place to stay.

The Salvation Army is best known for their bell ringing around the holidays, but where does that money go?  It goes to many things including their many shelters that help house the homeless.  Now that the cold is here, the shelters are filling up and that leaves them needing supplies.

When the cold weather hits, people start looking for a warm place to sleep.  So the Salvation Army pulls out cots and mats to accommodate.  Yesterday, they had 91 in the family/women shelter and 116 in the men's shelter.  They were expecting an increase last night into today.

They are asking for your help.  They are in short supply of pillows and blankets.  If you have any new or gently used that you'd like to donate, you can drop them off at 400 S. Harrison here in Amarillo.

Besides pillows and blankets, they said they are always in need of food donations.
