This is a weird instance of art imitating life imitating art. Universal Studios Orlando’s famous old ‘Earthquake’ ride was recently updated and replaced with a similar attraction called ‘Disaster!’ where guests get to experience movie special effects, and become extras in the “ultimate” disaster movie called ‘Mutha Nature,’ which stars none other than Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Next summer, Johnson will be seen in ‘San Andreas,’ which is basically ‘Mutha Nature’ brought to life.

The disaster blockbuster (or “disasterbuster,” if you will) also stars Carla Gugino, Kylie Minogue, Will Yun Lee, Archie Panjabi, and Paul Giamatti as the guy who gets to deliver the very dramatic pronouncements about the enormity of the earthquake (and possibly the enormity of The Rock’s biceps). At this point, Johnson’s muscles are so large, it is hard to conceive of villains who could conceivably give him a fair fight in a movie. So it’s sort of perfect that he’s not squaring off against an earthquake, but rather the biggest earthquake in human history. A regular old tremor? The Rock could take care of that with one arm tied behind his freakishly huge back. But even Hercules himself is going to have trouble saving his family and the city of Los Angeles from this massive convulsion.

‘San Andreas’ opens on May 29, 2015. ‘Disaster!’ is now open at Universal Studios Orlando; you can see The Rock’s contribution in the video below, around the 20-minute mark.
