‘SNL’ Star Jason Sudeikis Officially Confirms Exit
By the end of ‘SNL”s most recent season, it had seemed apparent that longtime series stars Bill Hader, Fred Armisen and Jason Sudeikis were bound to exit the sketch comedy show before the fall, though Sudeikis’ departure was repeatedly implied to be unofficial, even debatable. Now, as the summer moves into its later months, the ‘We’re the Millers‘ star has officially confirmed his ‘SNL’ days are done.
Sudeikis rather flatly admitted his exit from ‘SNL’ in an interview with ‘Late Show’ host David Letterman, taped this afternoon and scheduled to air later tonight. “A person can go as long as they want — I mean, Lorne’s been kicking butt at it for 33 out of the 38 years,” Sudeikis told Letterman of his longevity with the program. “But me, yeah, no — I’m definitely done.”
As if that were somehow unclear, Sudeikis added “Yeah, I’m gonna leave. Yeah, I’m not coming back next fall.” It remains uncertain if anything about Sudekis exit had previously been in doubt, or if NBC had pitched the actor to keep on another year, as the actor told ‘The View’s Barbara Walters in May of his future, “I sincerely don’t know at this point.”
Prior to that, Sudeikis’ ‘SNL’ co-star Jay Pharoah had tweeted a goodbye to Armisen, Hader and Sudeikis, but quickly retracted the post for uncertain reasons.
No doubt ‘SNL’ has been hard at work filling out the ranks with new cast members for the upcoming season, but in the meantime what say you? Are you surprised to see Sudeikis confirm his departure? Who would you like to see join the late-night NBC comedy? Watch the interview below, and give us your picks in the comments!
