Texas Man Sues Bar For Letting Him Drive Drunk

Gordon Savage is a Dallas-area man who is suing Richardson's Bar for allowing him to drink for about 9 hours straight and drive home, which resulted in a car crash.

According to Tom Carse, Savage's attorney, Richardson's Bar started serving him alcohol around 6:00 p.m. and did not cut him off until around 2:00 a.m. After the bar closed for the nigh,t Savage attempted to drive home drunk. He crashed into a concrete wall on Central Drive around 3:10 a.m. From the scene, he was taken to a local hospital and treated for severe injuries, according to the lawsuit.

While the police never charged Savage with drunken driving and his injuries were not life threatening, Gordon Savage thinks that there is a bigger issue at hand.

He is going after $1 million because he thinks the wait staff should be trained to make sure customers aren't drinking too much and are offered water and food if needed.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code states: "If a bar continues to serve someone who is 'obviously intoxicated,' the bar can be held liable. It's up to the jury to decide the bar's proportions of responsibility for injuries."
