Braden Joplin lost his life in a tragic car accident on January 19th. He was a Texas Tech student who had been volunteering for Ben Carson's campaign.

Ben Carson put a halt on all campaign activities when news reached him that some of his campaign volunteers had been involved in a car accident. A campaign vehicle flipped after hitting a patch of ice and was struck by another vehicle.

One of the volunteers, Braden Joplin, died from his injuries.

Joplin was an agricultural economics student at Texas Tech University, originally from Midland. He took the spring semester off of school to join Ben Carson's presidential campaign.

Carson left his campaign in South Carolina on Tuesday to be in Nebraska, where Joplin was admitted to a trauma hospital. Joplin passed away at 4:30 p.m. The other passengers were not seriously injured and were released from an Iowa hospital.

Carson said he would cover all of Joplin's family's travel expenses to Nebraska.

The presidential hopeful released a statement on behalf of the tragedy.

Even after more than 30 years experience counseling parents and family members in the most difficult of times, it never gets easier. But I find solace in the knowledge of God’s redeeming grace, and I pray that Braden's family finds comfort in the mercy of the Lord.

Carson's opponent Ted Cruz showed his support after the incident.

Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the accident.
