New Year's Day 2014!

The beginning of a new year marks a chance for us to set up our goals for the upcoming 365 days.

For some it is treated as a new beginning or, what I like to call, 'a reset.' A chance to improve on some things in your life and set you on a path that you've been wanting.According to the University of Scranton, here are 5 of the most common resolutions that we make as we kick of a brand new year.

1. Lose Weight

2. Getting Organized

3. Spend Less, Save More

4. Enjoy Life to the fullest

5. Staying fit and Healthy

Other resolutions in the top 10 include; Spending more time with family, quit smoking, learning a new skill and falling in love.

This same survey goes on to say that 45% of us will usually make a New Year's resolution and 75% of those people will maintain it through the first week. That percentage will drop drastically to 46% at the 6-month mark.

The best advise for anyone who makes a resolution is to make sure that you break it down into small obtainable goals. Say you decide you want to lose 60 pounds. Why not adjust your perspective and say that you would like to lose 5-10 pounds per month until you hit the 60 pound mark.

We are not as fearful of these mini-goals and they end up feeling more obtainable.

Whether you have made New Year's resolutions or not, I hope you have a very happy and prosperous 2014.
