We're going to need to start a new 'True Detective' WookieeLeaks at the rate these season 2 rumors keep popping up, but following the announcement from HBO that we'd be learning new details over the next week, we're giving this one a bit more weight. Colin Farrell and Taylor Kitsch are the latest rumored names to join the 'True Detective' season 2 parade, but is there any truth to the hype?

The latest rumor comes from The Wrap, though it seems their previous report about the 'True Detective' season 2 premiere following only one lead character proved a bit off-base. In any regard, the report says that Colin Farrell has entered talks to star as the "rugged and gritty" older male lead in the second season of HBO's dark and dreary drama, while recent 'The Normal Heart' star (and the only one not Emmy-nominated, ouch) Taylor Kitsch is a leading candidate for the younger male lead.

Stop us if you've heard this one before, but HBO declined to comment beyond “there is no news to confirm on the casting.”

Yesterday during their TCA press tour panel, HBO executives confirmed that we'd have at least some announcement of show's four leading roles within the week, while series creator Nic Pizzolatto insisted separately that no casting had yet taken place. The new California-set season of 'True Detective' will also have more than one director, following season 1 helmer Cary Fukunaga's exit from the series, though no official names have been revealed. We have our own ideas about potential talent ‘True Detective’ season 2 might cull, in addition to everything we already know about the next cycle.

Given the proximity to HBO's promise of actual casting announcements, we won't be entirely surprised if Farrell or Kitsch are truly in the running for 'True Detective' season 2, but take this with a grain of salt for now. In any case, do you fell either actor would fill the void left by Emmy nominees Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson? What would you like to see when 'True Detective' returns in 2015?
