I have never held an assembly nor have I ever publicly spoken on the topic of rape... but I can 100% guarantee you this is not the way to go about it.

Last week, in honor of National Women's Empowerment Day, this Texas high school made an effort to bring in speakers to help their female students know more about the dangers that could come along with being a woman. The first guest speaker came to talk about rape and violence.  Yes, a very important topic. But when you're in high school, you don't care what the assembly is about. All you want to do is hang out with your friends.

When a group of girls started whispering back and forth the assembly took a turn for the worse. The speaker called the girls out from stage for talking during her speech, and went on to make comments on the young girls' hair and said things like, "I won't feel bad when you get raped."
