Our condolences are with country newcomer William Michael Morgan, who is mourning the loss of his grandmother. She passed away on Wednesday (March 30).

He asked fans to pray for his family when he shared the news of the passing on his Facebook page.

"Today has been a very stressful day... My Mammaw just passed away and I'm awaiting some other news... Please pray for my family," he posted. "In almost 23 years I've never seen my father cry anything but happy tears."

Morgan recently released his self-titled debut EP, which features six tracks, including his current single, "I Met a Girl." That track was co-written with some of Music City's finest, including Sam Hunt, Shane McAnally and Old Dominion‘s Trevor Rosen.

The 22-year-old country singer stopped by Taste of Country Nights recently and shared with Sam Alex his admiration for Hunt and his songwriting talent.

“I’d love to get in a room and write with him. He’s a great writer,” Morgan exclaimed. “He’s got a way of painting those pictures. I loved ‘I Met a Girl’ … I fell in love with it.”

There's no news yet on when Morgan's first full-length album will be released, but you can listen to his current project and single on iTunes.

We have high hopes for Morgan, who was tagged as one of our Hot Artists to Watch in 2016. Along with a summer filled with fairs and festivals, he will also be playing at this year's 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival.
