With One Change A Safer School In The Future

Hearing about the tragic indent in Newtown, CT this past week has left the country in sorrow. One kid taking the life of 20 Innocent children and 6 adults plus himself. How could the future look? Could teachers be able to carry concealed firearms in classrooms to better protect against school shootings?

Back in 2008, Harrold Independent School District in Texas approved a district policy change to allow teachers to have a concealed weapon in the classroom in case there happen to be a disturbance at the school. The superintendent of HISD had said " the policy was initiated because of safety concerns. They have had employees assaulted by others, Safety is a big concern now with the anger in society."

Texas law outlaws firearms on school campuses unless pursuant to the written regulations or written authorization of the institution. Teachers that would want to carry a weapon would have to go get a Texas license to carry a concealed handgun, also must be authorized to carry it by the district, but must receive training in crisis management and hostile situations, and then they have to use ammunition that is designed to minimize the risk of ricochet in the school halls.

Utah is already ahead of the game allowing anyone with a permit to carry a gun in public schools and state institutions of higher education, with Texas right behind them. So with what happen in Connecticut, is this what the school districts around the country need to have in their policies? Would you let the teachers carry guns to better protect your children in case of a shooting does happen?
