Amarillo used to be a quiet city with little crime, but as the city grows so does the crime and violence.  Amarillo was once a city that didn't have much gang violence, but the times are changing and that is beginning to change as well.

Amarillo has seen a surge in gang violence, and luckily our law enforcement officers are working hard to put a stop to the rise of gang violence in the Amarillo area.   The Amarillo Police Department's Gang Intelligence Unit has teamed up with the Texas DPS Criminal Investigation Division, Special Agents, and Troopers.  The purpose of the collaboration is to decrease the rise in crime linked to gangs in Amarillo.

These groups have launched a response to the criminal organizations tied in with gang-related violence.    By teaming up they are able to share information, and intelligence gathering, and investigation sharing.

Helen Keller said it best,

Alone we can do little, Together we can do so much.

By teaming up and putting a stop to the violence Amarillo will become a safer place to live.  The collaboration has been successful and in the past week has yielded the following results:

Total Search Warrants: 4
Total Arrests: 12
TxGang Entries: 20
Stolen Property Recovered: $65,000.00
Stolen Vehicles Recovered: 1
Stolen Weapons Recovered: 2
Total Handguns Seized: 9
Total Traffic Stops: 19
Total Marijuana Seized: 336.8 g
Total Cocaine Seized: 0.3 g
Total Felony Arrest Warrants: 6
Total Misdemeanor Arrest Warrants: 3

The partnership will continue to address the rising gang-related violence in the past several months.  Amarillo has always been a somewhat safe community and the citizens of Amarillo would like it to remain that way.  These groups were put into place to safeguard our community and restore peace and security in our neighborhoods.

REVIEW: Amarillo Homicides in 2022

The year 2021 saw a staggering 24 homicides in Amarillo, Texas--the highest number the city had seen since 1994. A lower figure for 2022 was predicted, but the year finished out with a total of 28 homicides.

Below is a partial list of those accused in this year's murders. We have intentionally left off this list those who have been No Billed by a grand jury, had their charges modified to a lesser offense, or wherein the accused is a juvenile.

This is not an exhaustive list and is subject to change, pending legal proceedings.
