1. The Cocktail: This New Orleans drink made from rum and fruit juices was invented by Pat O’Brien in the 1940s. Interestingly, O’Brien only concocted it because he needed to get rid of a lot of excess rum. He even gave them away for free to visiting sailors. The drink is now a staple of Mardi Gras and Cajun-flavored parties across the country.
FBI Foils Plot to Bomb Federal Reserve Building in New York
A man drove from Long Island, New York, into Lower Manhattan earlier today in a van he thought was filled with explosives. He parked the van close to the Federal Reserve building, just a few blocks from the World Trade Center, and planned to detonate it using a cell phone from a nearby hotel.
The explosives, however, were fake.
106-66: Just Your Typical High School Football Score in Oregon
The Triad High School football team in Klamath Falls, Oregon, defeated Elkton High by a score of 106-66, a combined—and astounding—172 points, setting a new state record. It looks more like a basketball score than football, as Triad scored touchdowns on 16 out of 17 possessions. The only time they didn't score was on their final possession, when they had the ball inside the Elkton 1-yard line.
