Billy Gilman is headed to The Voice's live competition rounds! The singer defeated his competition to keep his spot on Adam Levine's team with a cover of Rachel Platten's "Fight Song."

In the Knockout Round, Gilman competed against fellow Team Adam member Ponciano Seoane, who sang Ed Sheeran's "I See Fire." Levine's fellow coaches, Alicia Keys, Miley Cyrus and Blake Shelton, praised Gilman's performance, with Cyrus specifically noting, "I just think your voice is amazing" (quote via Bustle).

"Billy came out here, and maybe because I know more of the backstory, I know this guy has so much that he wants to prove," Shelton said, "and I felt it in your performance, man. It was almost undeniable."

Before selecting Gilman to stay on his team, Levine told the singer that he admires his perseverance.

"You can emote so well. You can draw people in so easily," Levine added. "What you do -- you have a very special gift, and I'm just really proud and honored to have you on my team."

Gilman skyrocketed to stardom following the release of “One Voice,” his debut single, in 2000; he was 11 years old at the time, making him the youngest country artist to ever earn a Top 40 hit. Gilman’s album of the same name earned double-platinum status, but his following singles and albums did not achieve the same level of success. In November of 2014, Gilman revealed that he is gay — and called out the country music industry to support LGBTQ artists.

Gilman first landed on Team Adam during The Voice's blind auditions; he performed Adele‘s “When We Were Young” and got all four judges to turn their chairs for him. Fans can continue to watch Gilman’s progress when The Voice airs weekly on Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 8PM ET.
