Christian Bale, the brooding star of all three ‘Batman’ movies in director Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, has turned in his keys to the Batmobile.

Shooting on the latest film, ‘The Dark Knight Rises,’ recently wrapped, and Bale said, “[I]t’s all done. Everything’s finished. It’s me and Chris – that will be the end of that Batman era.”

The Oscar-winning actor stepped into Bruce Wayne’s world in 2005′s ‘Batman Begins,’ and again in its 2008 sequel, ‘The Dark Knight.’ Combined, the flicks have earned almost $1.5 billion at the box office.

‘The Dark Knight Rises’ features other name-brand actors like Michael Caine, Gary Oldman and Morgan Freeman, but the most buzzed-about gig went to Anne Hathaway, who played the iconic seductress Catwoman.

“In many ways, she has the hardest job,” Bale said. “There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously. So, I always saw Anne’s role as being the toughest job of any of us.”
