Pat Green is going to be performing live at the Midnight Rodeo in Amarillo on Saturday, October 1.  On Wednesday I had a chance to chat with Pat on phone while he was at his house. From the moment the conversation started I could tell he was going to be easy to talk to.

Most of my interviews are done in the morning. Most of my interviewees are musicians. Most musicians don't know what morning is. Well they know what morning is but they are more familiar with doing a show and having a good time and staying out until 3-4am or later. Not waking up and having to call some random DJ doing a morning show at 8:45am.  While they do a good job and promote the show, I can detect a hint of, "Why did I agree to wake up so early and talk to this guy.' It's a curse they most endure for the sake of promotion.

But when Pat Green called up on Wednesday and I could two things. 1) He had been awake for a while--or a least sounded like it. 2) Since he was at his house, his home turf, he was comfortable.  I could describe how we joked about how he has to go back to work because his wife had the kitchen renovated. I could put into words how he's been using one Apple computer to sing into to store his song ideas. I could write all of that, but why would I do that when you can hear those stories and more from the man himself, Pat Green.

McWilley: What have you been up to these days?
Pat: I'm working away on getting two records finished...

McWilley: When it comes to writing. Are you a spur of the moment or scheduled time writer?
Pat: It's definitely a mixer of both. I don't really know if there's a method to the madness as to which is better...

McWilley: What was your inspiration to start doing music?
Pat: ...How am I gonna get my next date with a pretty girl...
