Sony's Xperia Z2 phone, Z2 Tablet, Z3, Z3 Compact and Z3 Tablet Compact are all expected to all offer Remote Play connectivity for the PlayStation 4.

The Sony line of mobile and tablet devices, the Z2 and Z3 series, are going to offer video game-streaming/Remote Play for the PlayStation 4, Gizmodo reports. Sony already announced last month that the Z3 series would be able to offer Remote Play for the PS4, but the last generation of Xperia Z2 phones and Z2 tablets will be getting this function as well. PS4 Remote Play is expected to be a part of the Z2's Android 4.4.4 update, which is expected to launch sometime within the next month. Since the Z2 series is only 6 months old and not much different from the Z3, we really hope the Z2 series gets Remote Play -- it would save money on buying a Vita.

In order to use the Z3's Remote Play, you would need a steady Wi-Fi connection for both your system and mobile/tablet, a DualShock 4 and a $40 GCM10 mount. Given the DualShock 4's steadily diminishing battery life from its always-on light sensor and the expected battery usage on your phone, we're pretty sure you're going to need your charger cables for your phone and controller ready at all times. Gizmodo claims that using the Z3 for Remote Play results in a better streaming experience than even the PS Vita's, which makes sense since you're using the PS4's main controller.

Most major cell phone service providers will start selling the Sony Z3 around Oct. 23 (check with your specific provider for details since this release date may vary from company to company). The Remote Play app for the Z3 series is expected to launch sometime next month. There's no word yet on when you can by the GCM10 controller mount.
