Snow Returns To The Amarillo Forecast For Tuesday & Wednesday

After a record breaking warm weekend in the Texas panhandle, winter weather returns to the forecast to remind us that it is indeed still February. In case you were wondering, Amarillo hit a high on Sunday of 78 degrees which ties the previous high for the day set in 1934. Borger broke the old record with a high on Sunday of 81. The old record was 76 set back in 1962.

As for the winter weather we are expecting, the timing of snow will depend where you are in the Texas panhandle. Dalhart, Dumas, and points north of Amarillo could see some light snow as early as Monday night. The snow will move south as we go through Tuesday and should be in Amarillo later in the day Tuesday. Right now, the heaviest amounts are expected in Amarillo and southeast of the city. The heaviest snowfall is likely to occur late Tuesday and overnight into Wednesday morning.

There is still time that the forecast could change, however the confidence of the models along with weather balloon measurements is showing the likelihood that the Amarillo area will see a accumulating snowfall. Forecasted amounts will be forecasted soon and updated as the information becomes available from the National Weather Service.
