    The Potatoes

Mashed potatoes or sweet potatoes ? You might think the sweet potato is your best choice here, but unless its a plain jane spud the mashed potatoes are your best choice. Normally the sweet potatoes have been candied and covered in marshmallows. Delish, but can clock in at 250 calories as opposed to 140 from the plain mashed potatoes. That's 110 calories saved !

    The Cranberries

While the canned stuff is so much easier to open and plop on a plate its definitely not the better choice. Two half-inch slices of that jellied cranberry sauce pack 43 grams of sugar and 172 calories, and the can is lined with a hormone-disrupting chemical called bishpenol A. A simple homemade cranberry sauce made with real cranberries, some fruit, and fruit juice has 98 calories and 21 grams of sugar in a one third cup serving—and no added chemicals. And it tastes great. 73 less calories to work off !

    The Side Dish

Turkey and stuffing just go together. But, if you're looking to cut some calories skip the stuffing and go with a serving of green bean casserole. Half a cup of stuffing comes in at 175 calories, where the veggie dish has just 100. You just saved yourself an extra 75 calories !
