We’re all getting pretty pumped for the new live Curtis Grimes album “Live from the Parish.” If you’re not yet, to help get you there, today the Grimes camp released a teaser video. Curtis says he excited to have a new album, but even more so about it being a live album the reason being, “I felt like it would represents how we sound as a band right now.”
Craig Campbell tries on a more contemporary sound with his new single ‘Outta My Head,’ a song about getting over a lover who won’t leave you alone even though she hasn’t called in quite some time. By leaning away from traditional, the singer aims to please more fans than his last two singles — the edgy ‘Fish’ and a middle finger to bill collectors called ‘When I Get It’ — but the result is a nondescript, mid-tempo country song that could have been recorded by anyone at any time.
One album and two singles into a career may be a little early to go throwing around “the next best thing” but it’s not stopping me. And while there are certainly a few bands you could say that about, not many have experienced the radio play and success The Damn Quails already have. Both of their singles “Fools Gold” and “So So Long,” went Top 5 on the Texas charts. Last week the guys stopped by Radio Texas, LIVE! unannounced, but it was a welcomed surprise.
… In their new video. Yes, the headline was misleading, I know and I apologize. Now get over it. The Randy Rogers Band have released a preview of the video for their new single “One More Sad Song,” and it looks pretty intense.
Aaron Watson did something this summer no other Texas or Red Dirt artist has ever done. Not guys named Pat Green, Kevin Fowler, Randy Rogers, or even bands called Cross Canadian Ragweed or Eli Young Band can say they’ve accomplished what The Honky Tonk Kid did in six weeks this summer on the Texas Music Chart.
No one is going to pull out the calendar, but if Thomas Rhett was legally old enough to enjoy a ‘Beer With Jesus’ when he recorded the song, it wasn’t by much. What matters is whether or not the Georgia born singer is polished enough to carry the poignant lyric.
Reckless Kelly is easily my favorite band — from Idaho — who live in Texas — named after an Australian outlaw. But seriously, they’re pretty great. If you’ve ever pondered the difference between the Nashville and Texas scene, last year front man Willy Braun gave a great interview with Taste of Country, where he perfectly explained it. In Wade Bowen’s recent Top 40 single “Saturday Night” he poses the question, “Why does everybody love Saturday night?” Well, there’s a lot of reasons Wade; it’s a big party night, most of us don’t have to work Sunday, Radio Texas, LIVE! is on, the list is endless. But now we’ve got one more reason to love this Saturday night (8/18) in particular as Wade Bowen returns to East Texas to perform for The MDA Benefit Rodeo and Concert in Athens.

Well, that run continues this week as we see Bo Phillips score his very first No.1 single with “Red Dirt Girl,” which also means he’s getting his first tattoo.
