The New Orleans Saints Head Coach Sean Payton Is The First NFL Coach To Be Suspended In History
Commissioner Roger Goodell came down hard on the staff and coaching staff of the New Orleans Saints.
The NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell made it clear that there will not be any bounties on the football field nor in the NFL period. But what exactly is a bounty?
A bounty is when you put up money and ask a player(s) or teammate(s) to take out a player from the opposing team, if and when that player is taken out that player (s) is paid cash under the table.
Back in 2010 when the New Orleans Saints were first targeted for putting out bounties head coach Sean Payton, assistant coach Joe Vitt, general manager Mickey Loomis and former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams lied about any accusations on handing out bounties.
But after the NFL did some more investigating it turns out all four of the staff mentioned they knew what was going on. The Saint’s head coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire season of 2012 without pay. Former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, who is now with the St. Louis Rams was banned indefinitely from the NFL. Assistant coach Joe Vitt was suspended for the first 6 regular season games and general manager Mickey Loomis for the first 8 games.
This is the worst punishment in NFL history.
