Trying to lose some weight? Don’t feel bad, even felines are concerned with the number on the scale. And poor Otto (the cat) is no stranger to the name calling either. Fat Cat, living breathing Pillow Pet and don’t forget Round Mound of Purring Sound. Yeah, he’s heard em all, and he’s had enough ! Coming in at 35 pounds, Otto was more than 3 times his normal size and was even having trouble standing, making walking out of the question. His owners brought him into a local animal hospital to have him put down since he could no longer fit into his litter box, but thankfully , the staff offered to help instead. After a strict diet and exercise , Otto made his thinner debut on the Today Show having dropped to a cool 29 pounds. And while an overstuffed cat may be funny to most people, experts say it’s really not funny at all.
The unfortunate thing is, people think it’s cute,” Dr. Lyons said. Actually, she pointed out, fat cats “can be prone to diabetes, they can have arthritis, they can be prone to liver disease.”
So next time you feed your fur baby ya might think twice about that extra helping. As for Otto, he has taken up residence at the hospital that saved him and is working towards his goal !
